Hood River, Ore., April 18, 2024 — Fire alarms went off at the historic Timberline Lodge at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday April 18, due to a fire in the headhouse attic and exterior roof.
Timberline employees, Hoodland Fire, Clackamas County and Gresham first responders did an amazing job. The process, communication and containment saved the Historic Timberline Lodge from what could have been a much worse outcome.
Multiple fire agencies responded to the fire including the Hoodland Fire District, Sandy Fire District, Clackamas Fire, Gresham Fire, Estacada and Portland Fire.
Everyone was been evacuated safely and so far no injuries have been reported.
Crews had to battle wind gusts of 20-30 mph, but managed to put the fire out by around 11 p.m.
“There is an ongoing investigation as to the cause, but it is suspected fireplace embers ignited the roof. At first glance, the damage is somewhat minimal with water contained in headhouse and lobby areas and no internal fire or smoke damage. Power has been restored and guests have been moved offsite,” said John Burton, Director of Marketing & Public Affairs.
The hotel will be closed until further notice. The ski area will be closed Friday, April 19.
