1:37 p.m. Road blocks being set up near Trevitt / Safeway - STAY OUT OF THE AREA. Heavy smoke was reported.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Those on scene suggested cigarette butt could be the cause.

Crews were mopping up the site and maintaining hotspots along the creek bottom as of 2 p.m.

Firefighters were spraying down hotspots on the land between Safeway and Mill Creek behind The Dalles Aquatic Center at 1:45 p.m.

The Dalles Aquatic Center rests like an oasis behind the charred remains of the grass and scrub fire.

Dallesport assisted in the blaze bringing in this tender to stem the blaze at the edge of Mill Creek directly behind The Dalles Aquatic Center.
