Community Health Worker training launches; Apply now & start making a difference
From Columbia Gorge Health Council:
The Dalles, Ore., March 10, 2025 — The Columbia Gorge Health Council is excited to be launching our Learning Collaborative with our first Community Health Worker Certification Training, starting in April 2025.
Scholarships are available, but you must register by March 21st to qualify.
What is a Community Health Worker?
Community Health Workers are members of the community they serve. They build trusting relationships with community members, social services agencies and healthcare providers. They use an equitable approach to address barriers to health and wellbeing by modeling, promoting and advocating for clients and the community.
They are vital in ensuring people get the help they need.
Meet Araceli Avila. She is a Senior Community Health Worker or CHW with 10 years of experience specializing in clinical and community-based health. She has experience working in hospitals and clinics, as a bilingual and bicultural CHW giving her the opportunity to work with a diverse population. Araceli is of Mexican origin and bilingual in Spanish and English and a trusted Promotora de Salud Superior (Health Promotor) among the Spanish speaking community.
For example, a Community Health Worker may visit homes, community groups, and local agencies to provide education, assessments, and social support. Or, they might provide health education, nutrition training, and chronic disease management and prevention.
