Registration is Open for Climate Stewards Training Course

Hood River, Ore., March 10, 2025 — Oregon State University Extension Service, through its Oregon Naturalist Program in partnership with the Columbia River Gorge Commission, is offering a Climate Stewards training course from April 8 to June 28.

Events will be hosted at various locations including the FISH Food Bank in Hood River and other community sites throughout the Columbia River Gorge.

The Climate Stewards training will help participants learn about climate science, and the impacts of climate change on local communities and ecosystems and provide participants with the skills and confidence to communicate effectively about climate change. Field trips will connect attendees with community members and organizations throughout the Gorge, building a growing network of active climate stewards.

The cost for the program is $250, with a sliding scale available for those who need it. To register, please visit https://beav.es/GtA.

The training will offer an in-depth learning experience, combining online education, in-person classes, and field trips, with dates as follows:

  • April 8 — Introductory Zoom Webinar: 6-8 p.m.

  • April 17 — Unit 1: Community Connections: 6-8:30 p.m. at FISH Food Bank

  • April 26 — Field Trip #1: Cold Water Refuge Streams: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • April 29 — Unit 2: Communication, Interpretation, and Education: 6-8:30 p.m. (Zoom)

  • May 6 — Unit 3: Climate in Context: 6-8:30 p.m. at FISH Food Bank

  • May 17 – Field Trip #2: Community Resilience and Climate Change: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • May 20 – Unit 4: Climate in Context: 6-8:30 p.m. at FISH Food Bank

  • June 8 – Field Trip #3: Fire Adapted Communities: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

  • June 10 – Unit 5: Community Resilience: 6-8:30 p.m. at FISH Food Bank

  • June 28 – Capstone Presentations and Celebration: Time TBD at FISH Food Bank
