Cruising the Gorge in bodacious weather; more to come

The Dalles, Ore., Jan. 14, 2026 — Jack Cornwell, 32, of Portland skates at The Dalles Skate Park near Safeway on Tuesday, Jan. 13, enjoying blue skies and sunshine in the Columbia Gorge. Cornwell said he and a friend drove from Portland to fly fish and skate their way through the Gorge, stopping in White Salmon and Hood River. “I’m rockin’ a 5-weight,” he said of his fly rod, which could put him to the test if he hooked into a driving steelhead. Cornwell said he is easing back into skateboarding after an MCL knee repair and was grateful for the warm, clear weather.
