The Dalles, Ore., July 24, 2023 - Denny’s restaurant in The Dalles was robbed at knifepoint in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23.
A customer, who was there with family having a late dinner, said they observed a man come into the restaurant at about 2:40 a.m., and he brandished a knife and demanded money from a Denny’s employee behind the register.
The robber went behind the counter and grabbed the register drawer.
Meanwhile, the customer carefully pulled out their cell phone and called the police, hoping not to be detected.
The robber was wearing a green camouflage hoody and mask with pants. He was a thin male, the customer told CCCNews.
The robber then left the building and four customers in the restaurant after seeing the robbery occur ran outside and chased the robber, the customer told CCCNews.
“It was a pretty big knife,” they said, noting they were unsure if it was a kitchen knife or a pocket knife.
The Dalles Police and Wasco County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and dispatched a tracking dog in an attempt to locate the robber, the customer said, noting they watched through the restaurant window.
Police recovered the register drawer outside the restaurant, according to the Dalles Police Log.
9-1-1 Dispatch received several reports of an individual in the area.
Officers attempted to track the robber for an hour without success.
