Fire destroys trailer near mouth of White Salmon River
Volunteer firefighters from White Salmon, Bingen, and Klickitat County Fire District 3 responded to a trailer fire on Cook-Underwood Road near the mouth of the White Salmon River at 2:33 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
A home at the site was completely engulfed in flames, according to a Facebook post on the White Salmon Fire Department page.
One firefighter said when he arrived the fire was so large it was difficult to tell how many homes were affected by the fire.
The travel trailers were located on a Bureau of Indian Affairs allotment.
For a time, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) was responsible for administering the financial affairs of American Indians. As a result, the BIA created numerous allotment records that document land, according to their website. This is one of them.
Locals from the White Salmon community reached out to CCCNews in hopes of learning more in the chance they might assist those that lost their homes and other property.
We reached out to the Bureau of Indian Affairs through the Yakama Nation and spoke with Acting Superintendent Chad Wallace. We were unable to garner any new information currently. We will pass on any information when and if it becomes available.
