Free Kids Fishing Day Promises Family Fun at Spearfish Lake

By Cole Goodwin

Dallesport, WA, June 3, 2024 — On Saturday, June 8, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Klickitat County Trout Unlimited will host a Kids Fishing Day event from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is beginner friendly and open to the public free of charge.

Fishing poles, bait and volunteer assistance will be available.

“We provide all the necessary equipment for fishing, so no one needs to worry about showing up unprepared,” said David LaDouceur, Natural Resource Manager at USACE. “Bonus – if you aren’t a great fishermen, no worries because the volunteers from Trout Unlimited are there to help out.”

This event is more than just about catching fish; it's about instilling a love for outdoor activities and fostering a deeper connection with nature among the younger generation. Parents and guardians are encouraged to join in and share a fun-filled morning by the lake with their children.

Participants are advised to arrive early to make the most of the event. With bait and tackle provided, all that’s needed is a sense of adventure and a readiness to reel in some fish—and possibly make some cherished memories along the way.

Support Local News

At CCCNews we strive to use our platform to help inform our communities so that they can mobilize resources and support for critical issues that they deem worthy of support. We call this taking a solutions-based approach to journalism.

We do this as a service to the community and because we believe it is our communal responsibility to address the issues facing our community.

That is why I think I feel called to be honest with you about a very real, very hard truth that is facing our community:

Local news is a dying industry.

What we do here at CCCNews we do by the skin of our teeth every single month. Without increased financial support your local news will disappear. So please consider donating today.

We are so grateful to every donor, every staff member, every freelancer, every organization, every volunteer, and every individual and organization that has helped to sustain this service. Thank you all for your support. And thank you for the opportunity to operate this service for our community.

It is truly an honor to serve.
