Good River Wellness Center opens this Saturday, Oct. 21 in Hood River

We all know that crows are exceptionally bright birds, so I have no problem aligning myself with a bird. I have something to crow about!
There’s a new wellness center in Hood River. The Good River Wellness Center is hosting a grand opening on Saturday, October 21st. Founded by Tucker Meager, ND., with the dream of establishing a community of healers. Together they are creating a wellness-based health assurance membership plan that gives its members access to a curated group of wellness professionals throughout the gorge.
What is health assurance? A health assurance plan may be an addition to your health insurance plan. The goal is to keep people healthy with access to wellness-focused treatments, products, services, classes, and retreats. This is a plan for people who can't afford to get sick.
Good River’s mission is to provide the community with tools and services that will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle. The goal is to provide anyone in our community access to various forms of healing.
Dr. Meager is a local naturopathic doctor with over twenty years of experience. The Good River Wellness Assurance Plan is the culmination of a vision that began for him in Medical School at Bastyr University, one of the nation’s leading Naturopathic Medical Schools. Why did Dr. Meager end up in Hood River? He grew up in a small community in Colorado with access to nature and found that Hood River was a similar great small-town community with even more access to natural beauty.
Dr. Meager is the proud father of two great boys, Milam (15) and Beckham (10). For the past nine years he has taken the boys camping at Tucker Park, only a few miles from Hood River. What a happy coincidence that his first name is Tucker! Now, even though they live in Hood
River, not far from the park, they still go there to camp overnight. He’s committed to having his children grow up enjoying the out-of-doors. Hood River is the perfect home for this family.
Most of us don’t know a lot about naturopathy. Naturopathic medicine is based on the understanding that the body and its vital force are responsible for healing. As such, diseases can be treated and prevented without the necessary use of drugs but instead uses techniques such as mindful eating, exercise, massage, herbs, acupuncture, cranial sacral, and nutrition, and counseling. It aims to not just eradicate symptoms, but also heal the root causes of an illness. The goal is to treat the whole person. This means healing the mind, body, and spirit.
The goal of the Wellness Plan is, as he put it, “to help members of our community improve their health and stay well by eating good foods, drinking good water, and breathing good fresh air, thinking good thoughts, and having good relationships with the community and the natural beauty that surrounds us.”
Mary Magdalena, Tucker’s mother, has been instrumental in the formation of this new center. As a result of her own healing, she has extraordinary abilities to help people transmute the effect of serious trauma through spiritual guidance and meditation. For over thirty-five years, Mary Magdalena has been a beacon of light, assisting her clients on their profound journeys of self-discovery and reconnection to their true selves. She provides guidance in finding clarity and inner peace. She offers meditation and spiritual guidance under her business, One Feather Arts. She also is a professional landscape artist and art teacher.
As I mentioned above, one of this center’s goals is to include various activities to promote a healthy lifestyle. For instance, there are meditation groups that meet every Monday morning at 7:45 a.m., and Tuesday evenings, 7-8 p.m.
