Grocery Outlet Customers Raise $6,412 for St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry

The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 15, 2025 — On September 12th, the St. Vincent de Paul Society Ministry food pantry received a boost last week thanks to the generosity of local shoppers and a community partnership with Grocery Outlet.
Customers at the store donated $6,412 during the “Independence from Hunger” campaign, which was presented to the pantry in the form of gift cards. The funds will help offset dwindling food supplies that once came primarily from the Oregon Food Bank.
“All of this support came directly from local customers,” said Grocery Outlet owner Cody Miller, who handed over the donation. “It shows how much this community cares about its neighbors.”
Board members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society — Bill Marick, Ed Elliott, Debbie Sandoz and Brenda Trapp — were on hand to accept the check. The pantry relies heavily on such fundraising to keep food available for families in need across The Dalles.
While the Oregon Food Bank continues to be a key source of staples, reductions in supply have forced local pantries to lean more heavily on community fundraising and retail partnerships. Organizers said every dollar raised will stay in The Dalles, ensuring shelves remain stocked.
“This gift will make a real difference for the families who depend on us,” said Sandoz. “We’re grateful to Grocery Outlet and every shopper who gave.”
The donation will allow the pantry to purchase food directly from the store to meet immediate needs.
