United Way of the Columbia Gorge presents a summer benefit concert and live auction on Friday, June 28, with Hell's Belles, the World Famous All-Female AC/DC Tribute Band, at Bargeway Pub in The Dalles. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., 21+ event. All proceeds benefit the United Way of the Columbia Gorge and supports 30 non-profits in the local Gorge community.

The Dalles Library and Northern Wasco County Parks & Rec announce the 2nd annual Music & Magic in the Park, The Dalles City Park, Wednesday evenings starting at 6 p.m., June 19 through August 14 (no event July 3). We encourage families to bring a picnic supper and come prepared to have fun! Each week will feature a different performer, whether music or magic, it is always family friendly and always free of charge.

Tonight's performer will be Paul Steirle, formerly of the New Christy Minstrels. He will play guitar and sing songs from Bob Dylan’s early years, 1962-1974. He will trace Dylan’s progress through folk music, protest songs, folk rock, rock ‘n’ roll, country rock, and Christian music.
Wednesday, July 10, Music & Magic in the Park 2024: featuring Portland Shishimai Kai
Tonight's event will feature Portland Shishimai Kai, with Eien Hunter-Ishikawa, performing the traditional Japanese Lion Dance. The actual performance is only 15 minutes; however, before that we'll learn about the Lion Dance, and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers.

‘Art History’ classes at Mid Columbia Senior Center
The Mid Columbia Senior Center in The Dalles presents “A Little History of Art,” an art class with artist Kerry Cobb. Classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. in the Deschutes Room and continue Tuesdays Feb. 13, Mar. 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, and July 9. ‘River Without a Cause’ Author Talk at Columbia Center for Arts
On Wednesday, June 26, at 7p.m. the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River is proud to host local author Sam Moses sharing excerpts and stories from his latest book, “River Without a Cause.” Admission is free, with donations appreciated.

Sam Moses
The book follows his journey down Theodore Roosevelt’s “River of Doubt'' in Brazil with a diverse crew of adventurers, scientists, and indigenous leaders who explore the past, present, and future of a natural treasure few have seen. Moses is a former senior writer for Sports Illustrated and the author of several books, including Fast Guys, Rich Guys and Idiots, At All Costs: How a Crippled Ship and Two Merchants Mariners Turned the Tide of World War II and It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This.
Sam Moses is the author of the acclaimed race-driving memoir, Fast Guys, Rich Guys, and Idiots, and a former senior writer for Sports Illustrated. He began writing as a U.S. Navy Seaman on a heavy cruiser in action off Vietnam. He lives with his two sons in White Salmon, Washington.

Summer Night - Three Latino Bands at Jackson Park
The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association presents a special Summer Night performance of Latin Music at Jackson Park in Hood River on Saturday, June 29, 6-8 p.m. Summer Night features three Latino bands: Los Renegados, Grupo Blindado, and the debut of a new and upcoming group: Nueva Tradicion. Admission to the event is free and all ages are welcome.

The performers will bring together music fans and families from different demographic groups. This event will provide new opportunities for up-and-coming Latino ensembles to become better known and appreciated by Gorge residents who might not have heard about their talents or attended one of their performances.
The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association has had the opportunity to work closely with Alcance Consulting, a local Latino owned company, that is organizing and producing this event, including recruiting local musicians and providing a bicultural experience for the audience. Both English and Spanish will be spoken and food will be offered for sale by Lake Taco. Yeli Vargas-Boots from Alcance Consulting said “We strive to create connections that bring people together. As a team, we are dedicated to fostering understanding, unity, and a sense of belonging within the diverse tapestry of our community through our partnership with CGOA, presenting Noche de Verano and these very talented local bands.

Get to Know Your ‘Library of Things’ at Hood River County Library!
Hood River County Library presents “Getting to know your Library of Things: Cherry Pitter,” on Tuesday, June 25, at 5:30 p.m., in the Hood River Library Reading Room. Join in for a demonstration by an expert from the OSU Extension Services on the many uses of a cherry pitter, along with tips for preserving your fruit afterwards. This presentation is part of a larger series of classes offered at the Hood River and Cascade Locks libraries to help patrons safely and efficiently use some of the food preparation equipment in the Library of Things collection.

With a batch of new songs in their arsenal, AF&TR embarked on the production of Studio Album Number 2 with a queer female producer and engineer at the helm. While the band itself is making regional waves in a genre underrepresented by female and queer bands (Americana/Country/Rock); queer female engineers and producers are an anomaly in this genre (with the recent exception of Brandi Carlile!).

Polyrhythmics sound originated in Seattle’s underground deep funk scene combining impossibly tight grooves with bold brass and hypnotic percussion that showcased elements of R&B, progressive jazz, and Afrobeat which defined the instrumental group’s early era sound.

These different perspectives all pulled together create the vibe that is Small Paul.

Weaving together modern and traditional styles of American music, Never Come Down is a Portland, Oregon based 5-piece composed of Joe Suskind (guitar), Crystal Lariza (vocals), Brian Alley (banjo), Kaden Hurst (mandolin), and Ben Ticknor (bass). Their dedication to thoughtful songwriting and dynamic arrangements highlight polished technical skills and a commitment to listening to each other. Formed in 2018, the band began touring extensively- steadily cultivating a passionate fan base at home in the Pacific Northwest, and eventually around the country.

The frontman Sean McLean is best known as the sax and guitar player for local dancefloor instigators, World's Finest. He can also be seen playing around the Pacific northwest making guest appearances with bands from the jam scene such as Umphrey's McGee, Leftover Salmon, ALO, Andy Frasco, Lespecial and The Kitchen Dwellers to name a few. Sean's Music features original songs, reworked World's Finest numbers as well as a clever blend of classic and unique covers. Grupo Masato is a multi-ethnic Portland-based band that plays highly irresistible danceable music from Latin America. A powerful combination of Chicha, Cumbia and Afro Peruvian music that invites all ages to meet on the dance floor and celebrate our diversity. Chicha music grew out of the Andean music in Peru mixed with Cumbia rhythms from Colombia, and were transformed and reinterpreted by electric guitars, Fender spring reverb amplifiers, complex African based percussions and the discovery of psychedelic rock. Grupo Masato explores and celebrates this diverse music with a powerful show that will make you want to dance. Grupo Masato’s music is as intoxicating as the beverage it's named after, a powerful liquor from the Amazon jungle in South America, made out of fermented yucca.

The band was founded in 1997 by charismatic singer/songwriter, guitarist and trumpeter, Billy Joe Huels. Huels' songs draw inspiration from the roots of rock, rhythm and blues, honky-tonk and jazz. The band also consists of Kohen Burrill (drums), Robin Cady (upright bass) and Rod Cook (Lead Guitar).

The Portland based band Glitterfox has released five singles in just six months under their new record label Kill Rock Stars, with two more arriving this Spring. The band’s been growing steadily since “Drive” came out in August 2023, with their indie rock recipe that deftly balances Southern songwriting shine and nostalgia-fueled anthems. The four-piece band’s songwriters and front persons, married couple Solange Igoa and Andrea Walker, have always channeled their personal struggles as well as experiences as queer, neurodiverse individuals into their songwriting.
Bassist Eric Stalker and drummer Blaine Heinonen bring a love of Americana, grunge, and dance music into the mix. All of these influences can be heard on the band’s latest singles, produced by Chris Funk of The Decemberists, and in their spirited live shows as they prepare for their full-length album debut in 2025

The Fourth Wall
The Fourth Wall are a melodic noise rock band from Portland, OR, originally from Oahu, HI. What is the price we pay for joy, and is it worth it? The thread of this question runs taut through The Fourth Wall’s Return Forever, a fever dream of a record that unearths unresolved complexities of the immigrant experience in nine chapters. Throughout the album, songwriter Stephen Agustin circles a fire that feels so bright and yet so unknowable; there are not many answers to be found, only a disruption, the emergence of a world seen with new eyes.
The nostalgic tones of a Juno-106 combine with ambient layers, sparkling guitars, and airy, bittersweet vocals to define Portland dream pop band Starover Blue. Founding members Kendall Sallay and Dirk Milotz began the group in 2007 while studying music at San Jose State University, then relocated to Portland in 2016 where they reformed as a six-piece. The band’s penchant for lush vocal harmonies, textural experimentation, and subtle use of odd meters appeals to fans of acts ranging from Cocteau Twins, Beach House, and Big Thief to The Joy Formidable, The Velvet Teen, and Wye Oak.

The acoustic quartet – Andrew Sturtz [vocals, guitar], Courtlyn Carpenter [cello, harmonies], Will Kuepper [bass, harmonies], and Jim Herlihy [banjo, harmonies] - is serene and folksy, with melodic vocals soaring over the lower string instrumentals. Sturtz released their debut album You’ve Done this Before in August 2021, and now they are hard at work recording a second album that is set to release in Summer 2024. What do you get when you blend the genres of americana, folk, country, and rock from all over the US and infuse it into the Pacific Northwest? We consider ourselves defined by not one genre but a collective of thoughts and influences from all over. That’s the secret sauce here. The band is based in the Columbia River Gorge, a natural playground just east of Portland, Oregon. The whole band shares the common love for recreating in the outdoors and performing music, so there is no wonder we get such a natural, fluid, original sound.
Growing up in the shadow of the Santa Cruz mountains, Mac spent her days strolling through the redwoods and tracing her footsteps on the grounds of her grandfather's cattle ranch in the North Bay. Such a setting that would provide her with an undying appreciation and respect for all things old in age and of the earth. Mac discovered her love for music digging through her parents' record collection, emerging and adorning herself with not just the tunes, but the entire look and aesthetic of the music Mecca, Laurel Canyon. Drawing inspiration from Joan Baez, Gram Parsons, Jackson Browne and Buffalo Springfield, she began forging her own songs and style from her bouts with love, loss, tragedy and tranquility.

I Draw Slow has consistently redefined acoustic roots music for over ten years. Formed in Dublin Ireland, the award winning five piece is led by siblings and songwriters Dave and Louise Holden. They have released four critically acclaimed albums. Their last album, “Turn Your Face To The Sun,” was released on Compass records in Nashville, one of the leading independent labels in the U.S. and went to number one in the Irish charts. Their music has been licensed for Film,TV and advertising and is widely recorded and covered by other artists.
This band - together since 2005 - has made a real name for itself in the Vancouver/Portland acoustic music scene. Collectively these women have decades of experience playing and singing in harmony. MISTY MAMAS serve up Home-Style bluegrass filled with powerful harmonies, traditional and original songs as well as tasty instrumentals combining the American genres of bluegrass, old time, gospel, folk and country music.
Runaway Train Bluegrass Band
A south Puget Sound-based band that has been delighting audiences with their unique blend of traditional bluegrass and boundary-pushing music since 2000. The band, which features guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, and strong lead and harmony vocals, has performed at numerous major festivals and events throughout the Northwest. With a rich history and a dedication to their craft, Runaway Train is a must-see for bluegrass fans in the region.
Setting roots in the high and dry Central Oregon desert, Skillethead calls forth the best of bluegrass old and new. They ground themselves firmly in the bluegrass traditions of driving fiddle tunes, layered harmonies, and single mics, all the while weaving in inspiration and originality gleaned from genres far and wide. You can expect to hear a Stanley Brothers number right alongside a stirring original or a rollicking rock cover done in Skillethead's own unique fashion. The spectrum reaches far and wide, the bluegrass universe is expanding, and Skillethead is on that ride!
Playing in the Portland, Oregon region. Sunny South plays bluegrass with an emphasis on traditional styles like Flatt and Scruggs, Doc Watson and Bill Monroe. Sunny South started playing in the 80's with Sonny Hammond as lead singer and band leader. They played all over the pacific northwest and produced two albums. After Sonny passed on, the band continued playing bluegrass and honoring Sonny. Mike and Dave are founding members of Sunny South and have added Steve Reischman, Dee Johnson and Aaron Stocek to fill out the band. Sunny South is an experienced band, both professional and comfortable on the stage. They put on a great show that audiences enjoy.
