David Sendejas, 28, Keith Bright, 28, and Chance Sendejas, 26, said it was pretty cold last night. Temperatures dropped a couple of degrees below freezing. The houseless men were resting on Pentland Street next to The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce this morning, Tuesday, Oct. 27. All three said they were born and raised in The Dalles, and the Sendejas’. brothers said they came out of the foster care program. The Dalles City Council held a workshop on Monday night bringing in voices from three different counties to discuss the current status of the houseless and those needing mental health assistance. The State of Oregon is ranked 47th in the nation in treating people with mental health care needs, according to discussions last night. And the Mid-Columbia Medical Center holds patients who have suicidal or homicidal ideation from 7 to 30 days because beds are not available in the state mental health system. Since COVID-19 hit, the hospital is seeing 2 to 3 people per day who have mental health needs. Look to CCC News for a complete story later today.
