Initial Wasco County Election Results: 100 Votes Separate District Attorney Candidates

The Dalles, Ore., May 21, 2024 – Initial election results of the Wasco County May 21 primary election show a voter turnout of 30.96% with 5,760 ballots cast out of 18,605 registered voters as of 9 p.m. today. Unofficial results will be updated at midnight. Updated results that include postmarked ballots will be posted on May 24. May 28, 2024 is the last day the County will receive valid postmarked ballots by mail.

Initial election results paint a tight race for Wasco County DA candidates Kara Davis and Travis Marston. As of 9 p.m. on May 21, 2024 just 100 votes separated the two candidates. Kara Davis took the lead with 2,705 votes with Travis Marston coming in at 2,605 votes.
County Assessor
Jill Filla Amery won her uncontested races with 3,263 votes.
Wasco County Commissioner, Position #2
Another significant local contest this year was for Wasco County Commissioner, Position 2. The race was competitive with multiple candidates vying for the seat.
Jeff Justesen led the pack with 1,590 votes and 29.66% of the vote, followed by Brian Lauterbach who secured 1,403 votes, 26.17%, Dan Richardson with 1,379, Darcy Long with 808 votes, and John E McElheran with 178 votes.
White River Health District 5-Year Health Clinic General Operations Tax Levy
Initial results show that the tax levy received 311 no votes and 241 yes votes.
Judge of the Circuit Court, 7th District
John A Olson won his uncontested race with 98.88% of the vote.

Federal and State Election Results
In the presidential primaries, incumbent President Joseph R. Biden Jr. garnered 87.08% of Wasco County Democratic votes, while former President Donald J. Trump captured 93.83% of the Wasco County Republican votes, highlighting their continued dominance within their respective parties.
The local race for the U.S. Representative, 2nd District, saw Dan Ruby leading the Democratic field with 84.72%, whereas incumbent Cliff Bentz secured a strong lead on the Republican ticket with 79.68%.
For the Secretary of State positions, Tobias Read led the Democratic nominations with 69.26%, while Dennis Linthicum was the favored candidate among Republicans with 63.49%.
The State Treasurer race demonstrated a clear preference among Democrats for Elizabeth Steiner, who took 76.55% of the votes. Brian J. Boquist overwhelmingly won the Republican side with 98.95%.
Attorney General races also showed clear leads, with Dan Rayfield winning 71.55% for the Democrats and Will Lathrop taking 62.84% for the Republicans.
At the local level, the race for State Senator, 29th District, Todd Nash took the lead with 274 votes followed by Jim Doherty trailing behind at 246 votes.
The State Representative races for districts 52nd had Nick Walden, Jeff Helfrich in the lead. Greg Smith led in the 57th district.
