Deadline to file candidacy for Hood River Council is Aug. 27

Candidate filings are still being accepted for Hood River Mayor and three City Councilor positions. The filing deadline is no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and voters will choose in the November 5, 2024, General Election. Paul Blackburn is currently the Mayor and Mark Zanmiller, Megan Saunders, and Gladys Rivera hold the Council seats that are in play.

Initial election results of the Wasco County May 21 primary election show a voter turnout of 30.96% with 5,760 ballots cast out of 18,605 registered voters as of 9 p.m. today. Unofficial results will be updated at midnight. Updated results that include postmarked ballots will be posted on May 24. May 28, 2024 is the last day the County will receive valid postmarked ballots by mail.

Sorosis Park to Get New Playground Structure

The Sorosis Park rehabilitation project has hit a new milestone today. The North Wasco County Parks and Recreation District (NWPRD) has successfully secured an Oregon State Parks grant amounting to $420,000, which will cover 60% of the estimated $700,000 replacement cost for the TreeTop playground structure at Sorosis Park. NWPRD will cover the remaining 40% of the cost, meaning the project to replace the TreeTop play structure is now fully funded.
