Klickitat County Sheriff’s Deputies Receives The Life Saving Award

Goldendale, Wa, June 22, 2024 — Washington State Trooper Anthony Maton was seriously injured in a patrol vehicle collision approximately one year ago on June 19, 2023, on State Route 142 near Olson Road in the Goldendale area.

Trooper Anthony Maton was responding to a one-car collision on State Route 142 when he left the road, struck a tree, and became entrapped in his patrol vehicle.  No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

A Klickitat County resident, Colby Cain notified 911 Dispatch of the accident.

Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Randy Wells, Deputy Chance Leroue, and Dustin Vorce were first on the scene and immediately rendered aid to WSP Trooper Anthony Maton.  Once freed from the patrol vehicle, Trooper Maton was airlifted to Yakima Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Trooper Maton, a two-year trooper, sustained multiple broken bones and a serious head injury during the collision.  He has a long road to recovery but is in stable condition and much better.

On May 29, 2024, in Vancouver at the Washington State Patrol Office, Washington State Police Chief John R. Batiste presented LIFE SAVING AWARDS TO:  Klickitat County Sheriff’s Deputies: Deputy Randy Wells, Deputy Chance Leroue and Deputy Dustin Vorce.  

Klickitat County Citizen, Colby Cain also received the Life Saving Award for reporting the vehicle collision to the 911 Dispatcher.

The Klickitat County Sheriff’s wants to thank Washington State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste and his troopers for giving our deputies the Life Saving Award, and for the close working relationship we have between the Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol.
