The Dalles, Ore., May 21, 2026 — Residents across the Columbia Gorge and Sherman County will gather Monday to honor the nation's fallen service members as communities in Mosier and Wasco host Memorial Day parades and remembrance ceremonies.
Both events are open to the public and continue traditions that have connected generations of veterans, families, and community members through a shared commitment to remembering those who died while serving in the U.S. military.
In Mosier, the annual Memorial Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the Mosier School parking lot. Organized by Mosier American Legion Post 55, the parade welcomes anyone wishing to honor fallen veterans.
Participants are encouraged to join the procession on foot or with bicycles, antique cars, motorcycles, horses, pets, wagons, and other entries. Parade organizers encourage attendees to bring American flags and gather on Third Street near the school before the quarter-mile parade begins.
Free coffee and doughnuts will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Legion Hall, located in the Mosier Library building.
Following the parade, participants will travel to the Mosier Cemetery, where a Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. The observance will recognize veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
Mosier's American Legion post has served the community for more than a century. In addition to organizing the annual Memorial Day observance, the post has supported local projects including cemetery improvements, community cleanups, the Mosier Library, local schools and the Gorge Food Bank.
In Wasco, Memorial Day activities begin with a morning ceremony at 10 a.m. at Wasco Depot Park, 1108 Clark St.
The service will be followed by the annual Memorial Day Parade at 11 a.m. along Clark Street in downtown Wasco. Community celebrations will continue throughout the afternoon with a classic car show, artisan market, food vendors, and activities for children.
The Wasco community's Memorial Day celebration has been a local tradition for more than 40 years, drawing residents and visitors to the historic city founded in 1879.
Organizers say the annual events provide an opportunity not only to honor military members who died in service, but also to bring communities together in reflection and gratitude.
