A 22-year-old driver was arrested early Saturday after leading deputies on a pursuit through Wasco County, continuing for miles even after spike strips disabled her tires.

An Oregon State Police trooper assisting a tow truck on Interstate 84 recognized a silver alert vehicle, stopped the driver and safely reunited a 79-year-old Tygh Valley woman with family.

Oregon State Police responded to multiple crashes during Christmas week, including several DUII arrests and rollover wrecks on I-84 and U.S. 197 that damaged barriers and disrupted traffic.

Alleged thieves from the Portland area are accused of wrecking a stolen Toyota minivan east of The Dalles on Saturday, Dec. 6, after the vehicle was reported missing from the Salvation Army in Happy Valley.

A 20-mile high-speed chase on I-84 near Arlington Thursday night drew in multiple agencies after a driver fled an Oregon State Trooper and continued westbound across county lines.

Oregon State Police responded to two separate incidents on Interstate 84 in the past two days, both involving reckless driving that resulted in crashes and arrests.

A Hood River man was killed when his Subaru Forester left the road and hit a rock wall on Highway 35 in the Mount Hood National Forest near Cooper Spur Road on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5:23 p.m., according to Oregon State Police.

The Oregon State Police said they received a report around 5:11 p.m. of a person running eastbound on the westbound off-ramp of I-84. Shortly after, the pedestrian was struck between travel lanes by a yellow commercial vehicle pulling a tanker trailer.

On Tuesday, troopers found that three offenders were out of compliance for failing to either update their registry or report their change of address. OSP made reports to the Wasco County District Attorney’s office requesting arrest warrants. 

“Our dispatchers and deputies quickly learned the crash was due to a road rage issue with another vehicle. The suspect vehicle was reported to have struck the victim's vehicle causing the victim to lose control and crash into the metal guardrail,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post.

Oregon State Police had a couple of strange calls for assistance this week as a motorcylist crashes after falling asleep on Thursday and the driver of a Hyundai blames a rear-end wreck on cruise control on Wednesday.

The driver then denied being in possession of a firearm. However, his passenger divulged a 45 caliber Glock 21 that was in a bag behind the driver’s seat, the report states.

An investigation revealed that the driver of the Nissan struck a red F-150 pickup and struck the guardrail before coming to a stop.  The man was arrested on multiple counts including driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Oregon State Police Troopers were hopping on Thursday, Feb. 15, as wrecks caused by icy conditions and an overdose sent blue lights flashing on Highway 97 and in The Dalles. It all happened within 2 hours.

The pedestrian was reportedly walking in the westbound lane near milepost 76 when the semi struck the male wearing dark clothing.

The vehicle crossed Westcliff Drive and went over an embankment coming to an uncontrolled rest in the parking lot for the Columbia Cliff Villas Hotel in Hood River on Saturday, Jan. 6.
