The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 2, 2024 — Moving got complicated for a 66-year-old driver when he was reported for driving recklessly in a U-Haul truck with his two cats.
James Richard Youngers was pulled over by Oregon State Police Trooper George Economou on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 4:47 p.m.
The Trooper located a U-Haul moving truck traveling westbound on Interstate 84 near the Deschutes River after 911 dispatchers took four driving complaints.
The Trooper observed reckless driving behavior and stopped the vehicle, according to his report.
“The driver displayed multiple signs of impairment and admitted to consuming alcohol. He consented to perform field sobriety tests but only attempted HGN due to physical limitations. The driver either could not or would not, track the stimulus and was placed under arrest for DUII.”
Two feline companion animals were removed from the vehicle prior to Simcoe Towing responding for the vehicle. The driver was transported to NORCOR jail in The Dalles, where he provided breath samples with a resultant blood alcohol content of 0.20%, more than twice the legal limit.
The driver was cited and released with his cats and given a courtesy ride to Motel 6 with additional violation citations for failure to drive within the lane and violating the open container law, the report states.
