The Dalles, Ore., July 26, 2024 — As of July 25, more than 1 million acres are estimated burned in Oregon as megafires at more than 100,000 acres are burning in three locations in the eastern part of the state.

Hello, World!

While we continue to see local efforts to stem smaller blazes near Mosier and Cascade Locks, mega-fires are burning east of Condon, near Burns, and in Baker County.

It is taking a massive effort and costing in the 10s of millions of dollars.

Significant efforts from various teams and agencies have been called upon as thousands are working to extinguish conflagrations.

The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has deployed multiple incident management teams to address the ongoing wildfire situation across the state.

Hello, World!

Approximately 6,774 personnel are assigned to 38 large fires in Oregon with the assistance of many local fire districts, federal, state, and county government employees, landowners, forestland operators, and community members contributing daily.

It appears 2024 may break records. The largest burn in Oregon’s recent history came in 2020 when 1.14 million acres burned in the state.

The weather can make or break the fire season.

Hello, World!

Oregon Department of Forestry Meteorologist Pete Parsons is forecasting an upper-air pattern that favors modestly above-normal temperatures in August, but it also opens the door for thunderstorm activity, according to his July 18 report.
