The Dalles, Ore. Dec. 17, 2024 — Authorities responded to a reported break-in involving armed suspects Monday morning on West 16th Street, prompting a perimeter search with K-9 units and drone assistance.
James Alwine, the homeowner, reported three men entered the residence at approximately 8:19 a.m. on Dec. 16.
One of the suspects, described as wearing a dark hoodie, was seen in the kitchen with a handgun. The other two men’s exact locations were unknown at the time. All three suspects were described as wearing dark hoodies, with one possibly in a greenish coat and another notably tall.
The suspects fled the scene, heading north toward Walnut Street. Alwine, who was in the living room during the incident, reported hearing the men enter through the backdoor. He declined medical attention, and no injuries were reported. Alwine’s wife and three children were also in the home during the incident.
Local police, with assistance from the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and K-9 units, established a perimeter and launched a search. A drone was deployed to assist officers in tracking the suspects, who were last seen running through fields between West 13th and 16th streets.
By mid-morning, K-9 units tracked the suspects’ movements toward nearby hillsides and open fields, but the individuals remain at large. Authorities continue to investigate.
