Portion of Union Street next to Lewis & Clark Park Closure starts on Monday Aug. 17

This section of Union Street between the sidewalk and the underpass will be closed for 12 days starting on Monday, Aug. 17 to complete construction work.

The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 16, 2026 — Ajax Northwest will be conducting construction activities for the First Street Streetscape Project on Union Street between West 1st Street and East 2nd Street.

To safely complete this work, Union Street will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic within the work zone from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, August 17 through August 28, 2026. The roadway will reopen outside of construction hours when safe to do so.

Motorists, pedestrians, businesses, and visitors are encouraged to follow posted detour routes and plan for additional travel time while work is underway. Downtown access will remain available via 2nd Street. Port access will be available via Webber Street.
