Rocket Run, Parade Kick Off Independence Day Celebration in The Dalles

The Dalles, Ore., July 4, 2026 — Hundreds of runners and spectators kicked off Independence Day in The Dalles Friday morning as the annual Rocket Run brought participants of all ages to downtown streets before the community's Fourth of July parade.

Families gathered outside the race headquarters before the starting horn sent runners onto the course, continuing a tradition that has become one of the city's signature holiday events.

The celebration shifted to downtown later in the morning as crowds lined the parade route waving American flags while floats, classic military vehicles, horses and community groups made their way through the heart of the city.

Patriotic decorations, red, white and blue attire, and sunny skies set the stage for a festive start to a day that continues with live music, family activities and a fireworks show over the Columbia River to cap off America's 250th birthday celebration.
