The Dalles, Ore., July 5, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has announced the following July programs.
Ongoing
Lacing Communities Together Take and Make Kit
July 6-31, all day, The Dalles Public Library. Adults may pick up take-and-make kits with supplies and patterns to create lace triangles for the Columbia Gorge Museum’s Lacing Communities Together project. Finished pieces may be mailed to the museum or returned to the library by Aug. 10.
The Great Where’s Waldo Scavenger Hunt
July 7-31, all day, The Dalles Public Library. All ages are invited to search the library for Waldo throughout July. Participants who complete the hunt will have a chance to win a prize. Visitors who spot someone dressed as Waldo during the daily 10-minute appearance will receive an extra prize.
Monday, July 6
Slip ’n Slide and Ice Cream Sandwiches
2 to 4 p.m., The Dalles Public Library. School-age children and teens are invited to cool off with a slip ’n slide and ice cream sandwiches. Children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should bring towels or a change of clothes.
Tuesday, July 7
Oregon Reptile Man
10:30 to 11:30 a.m., main library. Rich Ritchie will present a one-hour live reptile program geared toward ages 5 and older. The program includes lizards, snakes, a tortoise, an alligator and other reptiles.
Quilling with Corina
11 a.m. to noon, meeting room. Participants will learn the art of paper quilling by rolling, shaping and arranging paper strips into decorative designs. All materials are provided.
Kid’s Workshop: Our Mushroom Family
1 to 3 p.m., meeting room. Rachel Zoller will lead a family program about mushrooms, how to observe them, their life cycle and their relationship to people. The program includes hands-on activities and crafts. No registration is required.
Crazy Craft Club: Clothespin Puppets
4 to 5:30 p.m., makerspace. Children ages 8 to 12 will make colorful, hands-on craft projects. Adults must stay and participate with their children. Drop-offs are not permitted.
Wednesday, July 8
VR Gaming
2 to 4 p.m., teen room. Teens ages 10 and older may try virtual reality gaming. VR Gaming will be offered every Wednesday in July before returning to every other Saturday in August.
Ceramics: Pinch Pot
4 to 7 p.m., meeting room. School-age children, teens and adults may create a flower pot for planting seeds. This is the first of two sessions; participants should plan to attend the second session July 29. The event is ticketed. Tickets for the 4 p.m. slot are available at 3:30 p.m.; tickets for the 5 p.m. slot are available at 4:30 p.m.; and tickets for the 6 p.m. slot are available at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 9
Library Scouts: I Survived Wilderness Cooking Badge
1:30 to 2:30 p.m., children’s wing. Children ages 8 to 12 will build confidence, creativity and real-world skills through outdoor, community and STEAM activities. Registration is required.
Family STEAM Night: Strawberry DNA Experiment
6 to 7 p.m., main library. Families will learn how to extract DNA from a strawberry and enjoy a hands-on STEAM activity. Adults must stay and participate with their children. Drop-offs are not permitted.
Sue DeMarinis Author Talk
6:30 to 7:30 p.m., meeting room. Author Sue DeMarinis will discuss her novels, including “The Baby Between Strangers,” “The Station Master’s Wife,” “The Feathers of Fortunato” and “Hidden in Haarlem.”
Friday, July 10
Outdoor Recreation 101 and 201
10 a.m. to noon, meeting room. Won Kim will lead a hands-on outdoor recreation series covering trip planning, outdoor safety, navigation, emergency shelters, gear use and what to do if lost or in need of rescue. All experience levels are welcome.
Beach Canvas
Noon to 2 p.m., teen room. Teens will create beach-themed canvas art using colored sand and seashells.
Fun Fridays: Window Paint the Library
3:30 to 4:30 p.m., children’s wing. Elementary school-age children are invited to take part in a weekly activity series featuring art, crafts, games and other hands-on projects.
Saturday, July 11
Family Board Game Afternoons
2 to 4 p.m., The Dalles Public Library. Families are invited to play classic and modern board games. Light snacks will be provided.
KidQuest
2 to 4 p.m., children’s wing. Children ages 6 to 11 will learn role-playing game rules, create characters and take part in storytelling adventures. Snacks will be provided.
