Hood River, Ore., Sept. 25, 2025 — Mt. Adams Institute’s Sense of Place event series kicks off its 16th season on Wednesday, October 8, with Woven in Place: A Rancher’s Journey from Sheep to Fashion and the Olympics at Columbia Center for the Arts.

Carver, co-owner of the historic Imperial Stock Ranch in Wasco County and founder of Shaniko Wool Company, is a nationally recognized leader in sustainable ranching and regenerative wool production. Her innovative approach to preserving American wool has taken her from Oregon’s high desert to the global stage—supplying wool for Ralph Lauren’s Team USA Olympic uniforms in 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2024.

At Sense of Place, Carver will share how her family’s ranch, established in 1871, adapted to market shifts and ecological challenges to remain viable across generations. Her story highlights grit, the challenges facing family farms today, and the potential for ranching to shape both landscapes and economies.
