Shannon's Trivia: All aboard the Trivia Train

Shannon's Trivia: All aboard the Trivia Train

The Dalles Kiwanis Club took this little train out for a spin at the Fourth of July Parade in The Dalles earlier this month. The engine and car have a storied history, and we have questions.

By Tom Peterson with the assistance of Victor Johnson

The Dalles, Ore., July 19, 2024 — I hear that train a comin’. It’s rollin’ round the trivia bend.

Ok, puzzlers it’s time to hop aboard this train to trivia greatness.

The colorful train above is a staple of parades in The Dalles, and it turns out that it has an interesting history.

While it currently serves as a great conveyance for The Dalles Kiwanis Club, it once was a great feature at a local restaurant.

So put on your Engineer hat and tell us two things:

At what restaurant was it stationed back in the ‘70s and what was its purpose?

And if you’re clutch - send us a personal story about it. But first, wipe that yellow sauce from your cheek and don’t spill that barrel of fries.

Send your answers to tom@cccnews.com by Sunday, July 21 at 7:03 p.m.

All correct respondents will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift certificate to Shannon’s Ice Cream, which features non-dairy and sugar-free delectables. Go waffle cone if you dare or pump it up to an ice creme crepe. Who says heaven can wait?

Shannon’s awaits you, Puzzler. Shannon’s Ice Cream 318 E. Fourth Street, scooping the dream daily from noon to 9 p.m. It’s across the street from the Civic Auditorium. Look for the boneshaker out front.
