The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 12, 2024 — The answer to this week’s trivia question was a 4-parter and it proved to be tougher than a tomb to crack as the local pyramids above originally came with messages on their chimneys that were bound in the secrets of history.

While many quickly recognized the establishment as Spooky’s, only two cracked the entire code this week and sent their answers before the official deadline of Aug. 11 at 3:48 p.m.

Caroline Zeigler and Teresa Labrousse are our super sleuths. Puzzlers beyond puzzled.

They both told us the signs before they were removed, advertised: Spooky’s, Chicken, Pizza, and Goodies!

As the Fonze would say, Correctamundo!

So we baked their names into a couple of breadsticks and then flipped them around in front of a preschooler three-card monty style.

The little tike went for the garlic salt, olive oil, and Zeigler!

Caroline, you are this week’s winner. Carry yourself with great pride this week and come and get that $25 gift certificate to Shannon’s Ice Cream!

There were 10 answers sent in and Kelly Hyde also got it correct but missed the deadline by two hours.

Amy Ellis, Jack LaFonde, Tamara Quinton, boofitz, Mary Huber, TDD, and Chris Dobo also sent in partially correct answers.

Nice work all!

Here’s to you Caroline Zeigler! Your ice cream bliss awaits you. Shannon’s Ice Cream 318 E. Fourth Street, The Dalles, scooping the dream daily from noon to 9 p.m. It’s across the street from the Civic Auditorium. Look for the boneshaker out front.

What’s a boneshaker?

This is a boneshaker and we’ve seen Shannon’s proprietor Jonathon Zilka ride it numerous times after climbing atop the velocipede invented in the 1800s. The bone-shaker name comes from the amazing comfort the bike delivers;)

Last Week’s Winner

Jody Bell captured the Shannon’s Trivia prize on Aug. 4, with her correct answer of Dominoes Pizza being the former spot of Economy Grocery.
