The Dalles, Ore., April 30, 2026 — A chairlift accident at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl on Thursday morning left one worker dead and another seriously injured after a maintenance basket fell into rugged terrain, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., a 911 caller reported that a maintenance basket had fallen from the upper-bowl chairlift. Two employees were inside the basket at the time of the fall, and both sustained traumatic injuries. One was reported unconscious, and CPR was initiated by a third person at the scene.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies — including the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Hoodland Fire, Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response, Search and Rescue volunteers, and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement — were dispatched. A command post was established at the base of Ski Bowl East.

Medics reached the patients shortly after 10 a.m. One individual was found conscious and breathing. The second patient did not have a pulse. Despite lifesaving efforts, that person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured worker was transported by Life Flight to a local hospital for treatment. The Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.

Authorities said the incident is being investigated as a workplace death, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family members. No additional information was immediately available.
