The Riverhawk’s boys varsity soccer team punched their ticket to the playoffs on Tuesday evening in a close match that saw The Dalles team play some tough defense and score when they needed to in a tight 2-1 victory over Redmond.

Jaeden Bullard got the ball rolling early on.

Bullard opened the score on a cross that he slid to push in for the 1-0 score just 10 minutes into the game.

The remaining first half was back and forth where Luciano Alvarado at goal came clutch on númerous occasions blocking 11 attacks on through balls by Redmond.

He finished with 10 saves for the game.

At the beginning of the second half, Redmond tied it up at just minutes into the game.

The Dalles needed the win to secure a playoff berth.

Freshman phenom Hulises Najera got the game winning goal and secured the Riverhawks a spot in the state playoffs.

Redmond pressed hard but only to have the Riverhawks press harder, and with about 13 minutes left in the game freshman phenom Hulises Najera got the game winning goal and secured the Riverhawks a spot in the state playoffs

Every single player on the field did their part to secure this win.

Tristan Bass was on fire taking on defenders and giving through balls to Hulises. Ángel Rodríguez and Grey Roetcisoender dominated the midfield. And freshman Marcos Quiroz  and junior  Daniel Cantolan gave Hulises the help he needed up top wreaking havoc on Redmond’s defense.

The team will finish out the regular season at Sid White Field at home against Hood River on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. with Senior Night. Alex Wood, Terry Proctor and Tristan Bass will be honored for their years of hard work.

It will be ‘blackout night’ where fans wear their black Riverhawk regalia.

At halftime, seniors will receive recognition for the past four years of effort.

“The band and cheerleaders will be there,” Alvarado said. “Come out and make some noise.”
