The Dalles, Ore., May 6, 2024 — The Dalles Lock and Dam Visitor Center opened up for the summer season on Friday, May 3.
The visitor center offers educational exhibits, activities, and more making it a great place to spend a few hours learning about hydropower, local history, flora and fauna, geology and take in the sights and sounds of the river.
The Visitor Center will be open Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Memorial Day. Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the visitor center will be open 7 days/week through Labor Day weekend.
Park Rangers encouraged the public to stop in and say hello!
”Our goal is to be both a resource for people traveling through the region but also our local community. We recently partnered with Columbia Gorge Stem Hub to provide fun and educational activities inside the visitor center and we have a paved trail behind the visitor center that is flat and a fun way to explore by foot or bike. The Discovery Your Northwest bookstore carries books and local merchandise that make great gifts. We offer a limited number of tours of The Dalles Lock and Dam to organizations and schools that can be scheduled by calling our office. We look forward to another year of serving our community and educating the public about The Dalles Lock and Dam and Corps of Engineers missions,” said David LaDouceur, Natural Resource Manager at The Dalles Dam.
