The Dalles Elks Donate $15,000 to Meals on Wheels
The Dalles, Ore., January 8, 2024 – The Dalles Elks Lodge 303 presented a $15,000.00 check to Meals on Wheels on Thursday January 4, 2024. The Elks annual donation has become especially important in the last two years due to funding cuts.
“We receive a very small amount of government funding and that funding was cut last year by about 10% and we are serving more people, so you can only imagine how important and how needed the donation of $15,000.00 the Elks Lodge made to Meals On Wheels was,” said Denise Patton, Director of The Dalles Meals on Wheels.
“This will help our program serve some of the most vulnerable people in our community, seniors who are trying to maintain their independence, yet cannot shop or cook for themselves.
The donation the Elks made will help greatly,” said Patton.
Meals on Wheels is currently serving 180 people meals every day with their home deliveries. They also serve around 40 people Monday thrgouh Friday in the dining room.
For anyone over 60 on site or on the route, it is for a suggested donation of $4.00 a meal.
The Elks, are happy to help support Meals and Wheels and have a charitable impact on the community.
“The Elks are a fraternal organization who’s primary purpose is charity. Most of the money we raise nationally goes to scholarships. The elks are the second largest provider of scholarships in the nation,” said Bill Seymour, Supreme Ruler of the Elks Lodge 303. “Meals on wheels provides a really needed service to the community.”
This will be the third year in a row the Elks have made a $15,000 donation to Meals on Wheels.
