The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 11, 2025 — At Monday night’s City Council meeting, Mayor of The Dalles Rich Mays officially proclaimed September as Hunger Action Month for the city. Every September, Hunger Action Month is recognized nationwide as a time when people come together to help end hunger.
Mayor Mays’ decision to recognize this at the local level endorses our commitment as a city to work toward ending hunger… because no one should be hungry.

“Columbia Gorge Food Bank works year-round to ensure everyone in our region has access to the food they need—and September is a chance to highlight that work.” - Breen Goodwin, Columbia Gorge Food Bank Executive Director
September is also when we host Empty Bowls, our annual fundraiser that brings the community together in support of local hunger relief. Hunger Action Month reminds us that when we act together, we can create lasting change and build a stronger, more food-secure region for everyone. Make a difference this Hunger Action Month and purchase your tickets today for Empty Bowls, taking place on September 26.
