Book of Will

Friday, Sept. 12

Opening Night for Book of Will

Columbia Arts Center in Hood River presents The Book of Will, a lively and heartfelt play about the unsung heroes who saved Shakespeare’s greatest works from being lost forever. Join us for this unforgettable celebration of friendship, loss, and the enduring power of storytelling. Without William Shakespeare, there would be no Hamlet or Romeo and Juliet — but without Henry Condell and John Heminges, we would have lost half of Shakespeare’s plays forever. After the death of their friend and mentor, these two unlikely heroes set out on an ambitious mission to compile the First Folio and preserve the words that shaped their lives. They’ll have to borrow, beg, and band together amidst the chaos and color of Elizabethan London to pull it off.

NICK DELFFS

Nick Delffs is not a protest singer. He’s not a gospel singer. Still, subversiveness and spirituality permeate Transitional Phase, his long-awaited second solo album. The product of five years of musical and personal growth that coincided with widespread social upheaval and a global pandemic – just as Delffs navigated first-time fatherhood, losing friends, and approaching his 40s; all weaved these songs.

Rich Swanger at The Balch Hotel in Dufur, 6-8 p.m.

A crowd favorite from last summer, Rich Swanger returns to the Balch with his blend of folk and country-blues. Now a prolific Salem-based performer, Swanger has recorded four albums, won Portland Folk Fest's prestigious songwriting contest, and performs regularly as a solo act and with his group, the Little Known Band.
