Hood River, Ore., Sept. 3, 2026 — Since 1988, Community Health Workers (CHWs) have been showing up in the Mid-Columbia Gorge for their neighbors in orchards, exam rooms, at kitchen tables, community events, and wherever people need a helping hand. What began nearly 40 years ago has since blossomed into a community-wide workforce, and now, their story is coming to the big screen!

“Corazón: The Legacy of Community Health Workers in the Columbia Gorge of Oregon and Washington” celebrates the people, history, and heart behind community health work in the Columbia Gorge. A fully bilingual (Spanish-English), professionally produced documentary, “Corazón” highlights the stories of several CHWs, showing the diversity of their work and the many ways in which they serve their communities. Created by a team of CHWs and allies motivated to spread understanding of the importance of this movement, this film takes audiences through the unique roles of CHWs, their vital connections to Popular Education, Public Health, and the Structural Determinants of Health, and the relevance to other regions and communities.

The documentary will make its public premiere with two special screenings in the Gorge:

  • Hood River: Tuesday, September 15 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Columbia Center for the Arts (215 Cascade Avenue

  • The Dalles: Wednesday, September 23 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the National Neon Sign Museum (200 E 3rd Street)
