The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 14, 2025 — From painting and portraits to Pokémon raids and author visits, the library is buzzing with activities this week. Whether you’re a child discovering art, a teen exploring games, or an adult curious about language quirks, there’s something new to enjoy.

Self-Portrait Night
Monday, Sept. 15, 6–6:45 p.m., Children’s Wing
All ages can try their hand at self-portraits using the library’s art supplies. Finished artwork will be framed on black paper to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Pokémon GO! Club
Tuesday, Sept. 16, 4–5:30 p.m., Downtown The Dalles
Trainers of all ages are invited to team up for raids, egg hatching, and exploring routes downtown. Registration is required. Participants under 11 must be with a parent or guardian.

Virtual Program: Our Failed Attempts to Make English Eezier to Spell with Author Gabe Henry
Wednesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m.–noon, Online
Author Gabe Henry leads a humorous look at the history of spelling reform, from Mark Twain to modern text shortcuts. Registration is required.

New Release Movie Matinee
Wednesday, Sept. 17, 4–6 p.m., Meeting Room
Catch the latest live-action dragon movie at this monthly family-friendly matinee. Snacks are provided.

Author Visit: Patrick Hutchison
Wednesday, Sept. 17, 5:30–7 p.m., Main Library
Hutchison shares stories from Cabin: Off the Grid Adventures with a Clueless Craftsman, his memoir of renovating a Pacific Northwest cabin. Books available for purchase and signing.

Guided Watercolor with Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield
Thursday, Sept. 18, 6–7 p.m., Meeting Room
Learn beginner watercolor techniques in this guided session. Supplies are provided, though participants may bring their own. Registration is required.
