Winter Storm Warning In Effect Nov 29th-30th for the Columbia River Gorge

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the central and western Columbia River Gorge.

In the central Gorge which includes the upper Hood River Valley and the central Columbia River Gorge, the advisory is in effect for the central Gorge from 4 p.m. November 29th to 10 a.m. November 30th. 

The central Gorge is forecasted to receive heavy snow, with total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches.

Wind gusts are predicted to be as high as 35 mph. 

In the western Gorge the warning will be in effect from 4 p.m. November 29th, to 4 a.m. Wednesday November 30th. 

Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations are expected to reach 2 to 9 inches. Heaviest accumulations are expected to occur east of Multnomah Falls. 

Wind gusts are predicted to reach highs of 40 mph.

Travel Advisory

Travel could be very difficult during this time as winter weather may create hazardous driving conditions for those with evening or early morning commutes. 

Commuters are being encouraged to carry flashlights, food, water, and warm clothing and blankets in their car in case of an emergency.

Plan Ahead: Gorge Weather Wednesday-Saturday

Wednesday, November 30th, may bring westerly winds and above freezing temperatures followed by light dustings of snow. 

Thursday, December 1st, is forecasted to bring more below freezing temperatures, easterly winds, light to moderate precipitation and snow above 1000’ elevation.

Friday December 2nd, is forecasted to be drier with below freezing temperatures. 

On Saturday December 3rd, afternoon precipitation and snow are expected to fall in the Gorge.
