Columbia Cinema of The Dalles will not be able to open this August as owner David Humphrey had hoped for last week. The National Association of Theatre Owners have started a Save Your Cinema campaign at: saveyourcinema.com It urges people to petition congress to help theatres until they can resume normal operations.
Columbia Cinema at 2727 7th St., The Dalles is offering drive up concessions today on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to help offset costs while awaiting movies to return to the big screen.
Worldwide Structures Property Company LLC is requesting a tax abatement in an extended enterprise zone to be considered by The Port of The Dalles Commissioners on July 22. The company is proposing to build a 35,000 square-foot-facility at 3855 River Road. The manufacturing building will be used to modify building materials, assemble all components of a completed home and some commercial structures, and ship the building to site.

Migrant Education Director Jonathon Fost with the Columbia Gorge Education Service District is working with orchardists and the Oregon Department of Education to reshape the migrant education program offered during cherry harvest in Wasco County.
“We thought it was going to ruin us,” LaRoque said. “But then I thought about it, and it is going to make us stronger. Being a business owner, it’s like a marriage. There is always a rough patch. But you just say, Alright, this is what we’re going to do.”
