A special Sense of Place event welcomes The Volcano Listening Project to the stage at Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River, on January 29. In two back-to-back shows, audiences will hear from an ensemble of internationally recognized musicians.

Sense of Place begins the new year with More Than A Fish: Stories of Salmon and Sovereignty in the Pacific Northwest with Dylan Hedden-Nicely. The conversation will take place at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River, Oregon on January 21st. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the show begins at 7:00 p.m. A livestream option is available to all ticket holders.

As 2025 comes to a close, The Next Door Inc. (TNDI) is thrilled to announce our Philanthropists of the Year! With so many people stepping up to support and care for others, we’ve decided to award not one, not two, but three recipients this year: Molly Fauth in Hood River County, Pray Electric of Wasco County, and donors who wish to remain anonymous from Klickitat County.

For many people, FFA is easy to misunderstand. Some still think it’s just about farming or kids who plan to stay in agriculture. That view misses the point — especially here in our county, where we see firsthand what FFA really does.

On Dec. 19th, the county is shifting into the recovery phase following last night’s heavy rainfall. There are several road closures due to water and debris hazards and officials are asking the public to avoid county recreation areas. Crews are working to clear roads and assess flood damage.

The City of Hood River has declared a State of Emergency following federal immigration enforcement activities in the area and their impact on the community. The Hood River City Council directed City Manager Abigail Elder to declare a State of Emergency in the City of Hood River at its December 8 regular meeting. 

Working Hands Fermentation will host a community Craft Night on Friday, Dec. 12, offering a relaxed evening for crafters of all skill levels in its taproom from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Insitu, Washington Federal Bank, Columbia Gorge Education Service District, Washington Gorge Action Programs, Mid-Columbia Community Action Council, and The Next Door Inc. are teaming up to host a winter coat drive for local area youth! As we approach the cold winter months, you can donate new and like-new coats for all ages now through the end of December. 

Hood River Farmers Market’s tenth winter season starts on Saturday, December 6th! Hood River Farmers Market is the only year-round farmers market in the Gorge. It’s open on 1st and 3rd Saturdays, December through April, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the winter, the market remains outside but moves to 403 Portway Avenue on the waterfront, near Ferment Brewing.

The City of Hood River has launched a series of short questionnaires to receive public input to help guide their project, the Development Code Audit and Update.
