The Road Less Traveled TD Cross Country Travels to Heppner for 5K Race; Sets Several PR's
As random as a field near Heppner may seem, and despite the crunchy stubble underfoot, the course is remarkably flat and forgiving; the home team, coached by Russ Nichols, is consistently strong and competitive: both good reasons why over a dozen teams, including the Riverhawks, TDMS Wildcats, and St. Mary’s- came to run the Mustang Invitational last Thursday.
TDHS Loses a Tough One to Crook County
The Dalles high school volleyball team played 3 games against the Crook County Cowboys and competed very well in each one. There were lots of fans and supporters there with the theme being Pink out. Unfortunately, they lost all 3 games.

TDHS Girls Soccer Beat Hood River for the First Time in 13 Seasons
The Dalles Riverhawks soccer team played the Hood River Valley Eagles yesterday in The Dalles. The Hawks haven’t beaten HRV in 13 seasons and the Hawks were ready to beat that streak. The last time these two teams played HRV beat the Hawks in double overtime in the IMC playoffs. The Hawks were out for revenge and succeeded at getting it winning 2-1.
CGCC President Joins Latino Student Initiative
Excelencia in Education, a national organization whose mission is to accelerate Latino student success in higher education, has announced that Dr. Marta Yera Cronin, president of Columbia Gorge Community College, has chosen to be part of Presidents for Latino Student Success and the Excelencia in Action network.

The Columbia Gorge Resolution Center (CGRC) planning group has received a $50,000 planning grant from the Oregon Health Authority on October 1st, 2021.
Sense of Place Lecture: The Unusual Mushrooms of Cascadia
Michael Beug will give a lecture on the ‘fungus among us’ in the Cascade region. Beug started mushrooming in 1969 and has discovered more than 50 new mushroom species in the Pacific Northwest.

Students, Avery and Star bundled together in the cool autumn air for the movie in the amphitheater on Friday, Oct. 1, the last night of welcome week at Columbia Gorge Community College, The Dalles campus. Disney’s Jungle Cruise was playing.
It’s a good day for a run
“Diego said it’s a good day for a run,” as he dashed past me on his cool-down, flashing a thumbs up. In typical understatement, the freshmen meant it was a perfect day to try to beat The Dalles’ 5k school record: 15 minutes and 35 seconds. Of 24 TDHS runners, 14 finished with season bests, and 10 with their all-time personal record.

Detour Ahead: Section of 10th Street Closes Oct. 4th for Fire Hydrant Repair
Beginning October 4, 2021, the City of The Dalles Public Works Department will replace a damaged fire hydrant and fire hydrant valve at the intersection of E 10 th St. and Laughlin St. The work is expected to be completed in three days.
CGRC would lower incarceration rates of those with mental and behavioral health problems; improve local access to health services
LPSCC has submitted a $50,000 grant proposal to the Oregon Health Authority to pay planning costs of a Columbia Gorge Resolution Center. The Resolution Center would lower mental and behavioral health related incarcerations and improve access to mental and behavioral health services in the Wasco, Sherman, and Hood River Counties.

Uneven hills throughout the park, plus the infamous “college hill” next to CGCC, make it among the toughest cross country races in the state. How much water does Google need to cool two new data plants in The Dalles? They're not spilling any details, "trade secrets," they say. But their request, which could be in the billions of gallons, has City Councilors looking at a massive potable water infrastructure upgrade that would increase water production capacity by 75 percent in the near future - billions of gallons per year.

The Dalles Riverhawks football team played La Salle Prep on Friday, September 24th in Milwaukee, and oh boy it was a shootout with the Hawks winning 76-44. The Hawks racked up 720 total yards on offense.

World renowned photographer and Mosier resident John Chao invites the public to share a once-in-a-lifetime experience at MoonMountain Highway in Bingen on September 25th, from 6-9 p.m. Chao will display a series of his mega-photographs for the first time ever and will give a talk about his new book 50-Year Vision Quest, a penned memoir composed of 500 photographs taken over his 50 year adventure with the camera.
