Salvage to begin in TD Marina fire after investigation; no cause yet
Insurance companies are still sorting out the cause of the fire at The Dalles Marina that destroyed eight houseboats and sank four vessels. No cause has been determined as yet, making it impossible to know who is liable for the damage. Salvage of the boathouse and floating of sunken boats is expected after a determination of the cause or the lack thereof is final.

DirtHugger is embracing The Dalles with a solid bear hug as they clean up the former site of Jones Auto Wrecking & Towing at 749 Snipes Street just south of Kentucky Fried Chicken in The Dalles. The site will serve as a retail outlet as the company composts some 55,000 tons of local green waste annually.

FORT DALLES FOURTH : LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!
The gloves are coming off this weekend as The Dalles gets ready to rumble with a stellar set of Fourth of July festivities. Neighbor to neighbor, shoulder to shoulder. Volunteers have blown it out of the sky raising thousands of dollars to bring one of the premier fireworks displays in the entire Northwest with 22 plus minutes of bang and blast, oohs and ahs.
UPDATE: Valley Fire just east of TD has burned 987 acres so far; no injuries
Strong winds pushed the Sunset Valley Fire, which was burning in mostly brush and wheat, in a southeast direction, forcing evacuations and road closures. The fire damaged one barn, several outbuildings, multiple vehicles and a portion of a local cherry orchard. Firefighters were able to protect the homes in the area and no injuries have been reported.
