The Dalles City Council officially hired Matthew Klebes as the new City Manager of The Dalles this evening, March 23.
Klebes, who is the current Wasco County Administrative Services Director, will start with the City on May 16.

Housing Developers in East the Dalles will be looking at increased fees for sanitary sewer services if The Dalles City Council approves a reimbursement district at its regular meeting set for 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 14.

There is hope on the horizon for those seeking to eke out an existence living on the streets of The Dalles while experiencing other problems such as mental health and addiction challenges. A local Agency has secured property and $2.8 million in an effort to get people off the street, build careers, and create stable homes.

The Dalles City Council unanimously approved Google tax abatements for two new data centers to be built at the former aluminum smelter site in the Port of The Dalles at their regular meeting Monday, Oct. 25.

The Dalles City Council Recognized NORCOR deputy Alicia Tally for heroism in saving a drowning boy who had been swept away in the current of the Columbia River on July 6. Tally received the accommodation at The City Council’s regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 11.

Oregon’s State Land Use Board of Appeals has approved the Legacy Development Subdivision in east The Dalles, according to an opinion posted Friday, Feb. 26. “The city council's decision is reversed, and the city is ordered to approve petitioner's application,” the opinion reads.

The Dalles City Councilors heard from one resident that they believed the proposed agreement with Google was a “done deal.” Councilors disagreed, noting they were taking testimony In preparation of deciding on whether to give the global tech giant tax breaks. Public testimony, however, swayed heavily toward approving the deal.

Jeff Rahier, 38, spent months living in his pickup and then with friends before securing a rental home here in The Dalles. He’s not alone. A recent survey by CCCNews found a total of 22 units available in Wasco County. A boom in housing prices and a lack of buildable land are not making things easier. The Dalles City Council will welcome just one new City Councilor on Jan. 1 after four contested races on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Dan Richardson grabbed 3,968 votes in his race for Council Position 4 against John Grant, 1,258 votes, and F John Ercole, 596 votes, in unofficial Wasco County Election results. And he’s ready to roll up his sleeves.

The Dalles City Council is pushing ahead on creating a temporary shelter for the local houseless population. The village of six units is to be located at the end of Terminal Way in a gravel lot between Northwest Natural and Oregon Cherry Growers.
