DA Rasmussen will not seek reelection in HR County, supports Ellis' bid for top prosecutor

The Dalles, Ore., Jan. 12, 2024 — Hood River County District Attorney Carrie Rasmussen announced today that she will not seek reelection in 2024 and has thrown her support behind Matthew Ellis to fill her position.
Ellis is currently the Wasco County District Attorney.
Election for District Attorneys in both Hood River and Wasco counties are slated for May 21, 2024.
Rasmussen, after 19 years of service, said she was proud of her accomplishment.
“For the first time ever, Hood River County now has a Mental Health Court, which has transformed the way we handle cases involving people who have behavioral health concerns,” Rasmussen said in her press release - click here to read in full. “This would not have been possible without the partnership of the Wasco County District Attorney's Office, and I am proud to say that we have melded the resources of our offices in this and other ways that benefit the citizens of our two counties. “
“Finally, I am most proud that our team has transformed and redeemed the reputation of this office to become one that values mutual respect, professionalism, accountability and fairness: qualities essential for true justice.”
“With those values in mind, I am heartened that Matthew Ellis, the current District Attorney of Wasco County, will be running for my seat. He has my full support. I am confident that given the opportunity he would continue to build upon our mutual successes and would lead the office capably.”
Ellis also sent out an announcement this afternoon, announcing his run for the Hood River County top prosecutor position.
"I am immensely proud of the work I and my team have done in Wasco County. But, as Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz, there truly is 'no place like home.' I have lived in Hood River for over a decade now,” Ellis said in his press release- Click here to read in full.
