Wasco County District Attorney Matthew Ellis announced the grand jury indicted Noe Zaragoza, Jr. (23) for Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon With a Firearm, Menacing, and Assault in the Fourth Degree.  Zaragoza, Jr. was indicted on Wednesday, June 26. 

Five candidates are vying for the Wasco County Commissioner seat that Steve Kramer will vacate next year. Also, The Gilliam County District Attorney and former Wasco County Chief Deputy District Attorney Kara Davis matches up against Travis Marston who is returning home to Oregon after practicing law in New Mexico in the race for the office of Wasco County District Attorney.

“I am committed to ensuring that those who commit crimes are held accountable, that the people they harm are heard, and to work hard to reduce the impact of addiction and mental illness,” Davis said in announcing her candidacy.

Hood River County District Attorney Carrie Rasmussen announced today that she will not seek reelection in 2024 and has thrown her support behind Matthew Ellis to fill her position.

Matthew Ellis was sworn in as the new Wasco County District Attorney by Seventh District State Circuit Court Judge Janet Stauffer on Monday, Jan. 4. at the Wasco County Courthouse.
