With inflation straining family budgets, Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation is preparing to add 211 affordable homes across the Gorge, capped by a 76-unit development on Chenowith Loop Road in The Dalles, slated to begin construction in 2026.

A proposal for a 76-unit affordable housing complex on Chenowith Loop Road is under review by the City of The Dalles, marking one of the largest multifamily housing applications the city has seen in recent years.

Mariposa Village, a multigenerational community featuring 130 affordable apartments and townhomes on Rand Road in Hood River, will open in phases starting in summer 2026. It is the city’s first major development in 14 years.

The Hood River City Council is set to make a decision on awarding the 129-unit affordable housing project at 780 Rand Road tonight at its regular meeting at 6 p.m. tonight.

“Far too many of our neighbors continue to struggle to afford the cost of housing in Hood River and surrounding areas. We’re anxious to advance our efforts at Rand Rd. and bring this important affordable housing development to a  reality for our community,” said Joel Madsen, Executive Director of Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation.
