It’s a week of big creativity and even bigger fun at The Dalles Public Library. Whether you’re building cardboard castles, solving supernatural mysteries, dancing at City Park, or crafting story-scented candles, there’s something magical waiting for everyone. I’ve spent my life growing fruit in the Columbia River Gorge—pears, sweet cherries, and yes, my family has grown peaches in the past. I’ve supported our local creameries and watched our dairy farms fight to survive. So you can imagine how it felt to realize we’re now importing the very foods we produce so well right here at home.

FarmStand held its ribbon-cutting event yesterday, marking the official opening of its location in The Dalles. The event featured several vendors inside the store, offering a variety of complimentary items such as wine, cheeses, bread, and cookies.

Candidate filings are still being accepted for Hood River Mayor and three City Councilor positions. The filing deadline is no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and voters will choose in the November 5, 2024, General Election. Paul Blackburn is currently the Mayor and Mark Zanmiller, Megan Saunders, and Gladys Rivera hold the Council seats that are in play.
