The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office announced today it has established a convenient medication take-back program for easy disposal of leftover, unused, and out-of-date prescription and over-the-counter medications.

“We will present evidence to the citizens of the community that are sitting on this grand jury and they will be asked to determine whether the officer-involved shooting was justified,” District Attorney Matthew Ellis said this morning, July 11. Jimmy L. Ewing, also known as August J. Law was fatally wounded during the shooting.

“Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen someone walking along the interstate dressed in all-black clothing over the last couple of weeks to please call the Sheriff’s Office at 541-506-2580.

The pedestrian was reportedly walking in the westbound lane near milepost 76 when the semi struck the male wearing dark clothing. 

With the recent and forecasted cool wet weather, local Fire Districts, Wasco County, and the Oregon Department of Forestry have agreed to lift the seasonal burn ban on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. This will allow for burning in barrels and small debris piles. Larger slash pile burning is not included in this lifting of the ban.

The driver of a white Chevrolet pickup was reported driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-84 east of The Dalles at 4:11 a.m. The log states that the pickup was traveling at 40 to 45 miles per hour.
