The festive spirit of giving is returning to Hood River with the third annual "Cookies, Cocoa, and Photos with Santa" event, organized by Jennifer Josephson of Windermere Real Estate and Cara McNulty of Kiddie City Child Care Facility. This festive community event hopes to bring holiday cheer to the community while raising money to help those experiencing homelessness this holiday season.
Mid Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) held a Contractor and Volunteer appreciation lunch at The Annex in The Dalles today, to thank all the folks, including 21 local contractors that have done work on The Annex over the last six months.
Mid-Columbia Community Action Council (MCCAC) is making significant progress on $1.6 million in grant and weatherization funded renovations to The Oregon Motor Motel thanks to the hard work of staff, volunteers, and local contractors. All of whom are rallied around completing the renovation of the 54-room motel which is expected to provide at least 50 transitional housing and shelter units with coordinated supportive services integrated on site in collaboration with community partners.
Mid-Columbia Community Action Council will conduct an annual Point-in-Time (PIT) survey to to count the number of people experiencing houselessness in Wasco, Hood River, and Sherman Counties next week. The survey will also provide valuable information to MCCAC about contributing factors to houselessness and the length of time individuals in our region have been houseless.

Humans generate a lot of trash, and the pandemic has significantly increased the usage of single-use plastics. And for those facing the unique challenges created by experiencing houselessness, keeping up with trash can be an insurmountable task.
The new restroom and shower trailer provides functionality, durability, comfort to guests of the shelter, while also improving shelter guests health, self-esteem, confidence and overall wellness.
