Two Motorcyclists Injured in I-84 Crash Near Rufus

Sherman County, Ore., July 20, 2026 — Two motorcyclists were injured Saturday morning in a crash involving a group ride on Interstate 84 near Rufus, according to the Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. July 18 on westbound Interstate 84 near milepost 113. An Oregon State Police trooper responded to a report of a collision involving two motorcycles that were part of a group ride of approximately 20 riders.
According to the preliminary investigation, the group was slowing down when the rider of a white Honda motorcycle locked the brakes. A rider following on a black Harley-Davidson was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of the Honda. Both riders were thrown from their motorcycles and suffered injuries.
The Honda rider was transported by ground ambulance to Adventist Health Columbia Gorge in The Dalles for treatment. The Harley-Davidson rider initially declined medical treatment at the scene but later requested transportation assistance to the same hospital.
Gilliam County and Sherman County sheriff's deputies, multiple fire and emergency medical units, and the Oregon Department of Transportation also responded to the crash.
The Honda was towed by Simcoe Towing. The Harley-Davidson was removed from the scene by a friend of its rider.
State police cited the Honda rider for unlawful deceleration and operating a motor vehicle without an operator's license.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no property other than the motorcycles was damaged.
