Webber Street Reopens Early: City of TD and Contractor Find Solution to Keep Business Access Open
Webber Street reopens for the weekend as business owners, Crestline Construction and City of The Dalles put together a new access plan amid utility construction.
The Dalles, Ore., April 4, 2026 — Webber Street has reopened to traffic for the weekend, restoring access to the Port of The Dalles and surrounding businesses after a week of disruption tied to ongoing construction.
The temporary reopening began Friday afternoon and will remain in place through the weekend, giving residents, customers and freight traffic a direct route into the industrial area while construction pauses.
The reopening comes after discussions between business owners, City of The Dalles officials and Crestline Construction over the impacts of a roughly 3.5-mile detour that had limited access to the area. Crews worked late to clear equipment and secure the site, allowing traffic to return sooner than initially expected.
“Additional information regarding upcoming traffic revisions will be released on Monday April 6, 2026,” the City said in a press release this afternoon, April 3. “These updated revisions will provide increased access to the Port and surrounding businesses and is scheduled to go into effect on Tuesday April 7, 2026 as part of the Westside Interceptor Upgrade – Phase 2 project.”
Starting next week, the city plans to shift from a full closure to a managed access approach. A flagger will be stationed on Webber Street to guide vehicles through the construction zone, allowing continued access to businesses near Webber Street and Terminal Way.
The updated traffic plan is intended to improve access to the Port and surrounding businesses while construction continues. Those measures will remain in place until West First Street reopens between Union Street and Terminal Way, restoring a more direct connection between downtown and the Port.
After that segment reopens, Webber Street is expected to close again beginning April 20 and remain closed into July as work progresses.
Drivers are urged to use caution in the area and follow flagger directions, as crews continue installing a new 30-inch sanitary sewer line deep below the roadway.
City officials said they appreciate the public’s patience as the project moves forward. More information is available at www.thedalles.org/DTprojects or by contacting Public Information Officer Amie Ell at amell@thedalles.gov
