Enjoy a one-hour interpretive nature walk with a Columbia Gorge Discovery Center astronomer and guide. Meet in front of Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum at 6:45 p.m. Sunset is at 7:05 p.m., and the full moon rises at 7:28 p.m.

To be nominated for the Ageless Award, one needs to be:

• 75 years or older

• Who have made and are still making substantial contributions to their communities

• Who serve as models of both the ideal that all communities are intergenerational and that older adults are a significant part of the community fabric.

Lora Helmer of Dallesport has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award in her efforts to provide emergency shelter and supplies to people in countries racked with natural disasters and war. She’s got two silvers and a bronze for the volunteer hours she has put in with ShelterBox USA. So who is this Lora Helmer and why does she do it?

COVID Schmovid! Girl Scout Leader Chrissy Zaugg and her troop persevered to produce a video on free elections and transparency last fall when the pandemic killed social gatherings. The video got rave reviews. And last week, the Oregon Secretary of State awarded Zaugg the John Lewis Youth Leadership Award for her efforts.

Our Jim Drake zoomed in an interview with Jennifer Batten, whose career as a rock guitarist is most notable for several world tours with the King of Pop, Micheal Jackson. Calling Portland home, Batten has assembled a lineup of NW musicians for her new band, Full Steam, who specialize in 80s rock covers. They’re set to play Thursday in Hood River.
