The Get There Challenge has helped several locals get their day off to a healthier start. We asked a few of these commuters to share with us how undertaking the challenge to commute sustainably has impacted their lives.

A local couple that was struck by 1955 Chevy Bel Air after it flipped during a burnout during the 2018 Neon Nights cruise downtown The Dalles has settled a lawsuit with the City of The Dalles and The Dalles Main Street Program.

The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce (TDACC) presents “I Spy Christmas” the 32nd Annual Starlight Parade and Community Tree Lighting on November 26th, 2021. New to the event this year is a Country festival prior to the parade.

The first annual Turkey Trot event in The Dalles will be held on Thanksgiving, Nov. 25th. There are two different runs at the event. The first is a 5k run/walk or there’s a family fun 1-mile run. The event begins at 8 AM at Lewis and Clark and the 5k walk/run will be along the Riverfront Trail.

Just two weeks until winter sports for The Dalles High School kicks off with a basketball jamboree. And after talking to Atheltic Director Billy Brost, winter sports has an amazing turnout. TDHS will put a total six basketball teams on the court. Yes, 6.

The Dalles High School athletic department recently announced the hiring of Shea MacNab as the new head swim coach. MacNab, a 1994 graduate of The Dalles High School, returns for his second stint as the head coach.

The Dalles finished up their fall season of sports and many athletes made the all-conference lists. Congrats to all the athletes.

The Dalles Riverhawks football team played against the Rex Putnam Kingsmen last Friday night in The Dalles. It was a cold night and senior night for the 7 seniors on the team. It was also the last game of the season for the team and they were ready to go out there and win. Unfortunately, they lost 55-41.

Almost a year after putting the old Dallesport Elementary building on the market, Lyle School District received two offers within a few weeks to purchase it for the full asking price of $1.6 million.

TDHS Riverhawks Cross Country had a strong showing at IMC Championships, the boys taking first place. Both teams have made it into the state finals set for Nov. 6. Go Hawks!

Ixtapa will be expanding its outdoor seating capacity with some help from the City of The Dalles. The agreement between the City and Ixtapa was made in light of recent pandemic restrictions which have limited indoor dining capacities.

Today, October 26th marks the 10th anniversary of the Condit Dam removal. On that day, the White Salmon River in south-central Washington flowed unimpeded for the first time in 100 years. The resurgence of salmon and steelhead in the White Salmon in the following ten years has highlighted the potential benefits of removing Lower Snake River dams, as Northwest leaders are currently contemplating.
